Tim Krul has joined Ajax on a season-long loan deal, reports the Daily Mail.
Mooted since the Dutch giants agreed to sell Jasper Cillessen to Barcelona, the Newcastle goalkeeper has signed a one-year extension to his contract. It means that if Ajax choose not to make the deal permanent, Newcastle can still demand a fee for Krul who would otherwise have been out of contract next summer.
It’s expected that the Dutch international will be match fit after the international break which begins next week.
Krul’s departure reduces the number of goalkeepers in the squad to four, which is still more than most other clubs. Once Rob Eliott returns to full fitness, Rafa has some decisions to make about who is staying and who is going. On the face of things, you’d expect that to be Karl Darlow although Eliott himself may not be too happy at playing second fiddle to Matz Sels.
