NUFC to send surprise message over the Stadium of Light for Sunderland’s final home game

After planning to fly a banner over the Stadium of Light to mock Sunderland’s relegation during their final home game of the season, NUFC fans have had change of heart.

Darren Curry, the man behind the initial fundraising campaign, had planned to mock the Mackems next weekend, however came under criticism from several United fans who objected to the idea on social media.

It has now been revealed that the banner looks set to be a message of support for some of the North East’s young cancer battlers after it was put to a public vote.

The social media poll has given donors the choice of four messages. One reads “Enjoy the Championship” and another”Enjoy Burton”, with the messages of support being “United by cancer divided by leagues” and “Cancer has no colours”.

Thankfully, the latter two messages are currently topping the poll votes, with the banner looking set to be one of support.

Personally, i’m all for this. Not only does it raise awareness for the regions brave young cancer battlers, it also provides a far more appropriate use of time and money.

Voting closes at 8pm on Sunday night. Following this the banner will be ordered and flown over the Stadium of Light on Saturday the 13th May in their final home game of the season against Swansea.

  1. Surely, isn’t it classier to rise above the idiots that support 5under1and by appealing to their more sensible support buy offering a message of hope to the wee ones who are suffering.
“cancer has no Colours” would be my choice. And ended with..”Thankou for Defoe”.
    Can’t resist. Howaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay the Lads.
