Derby County lodge £4m bid for Newcastle United defender

Derby County are reported to lodged a £4m bid for Newcastle United defender Grant Hanley according to the Derby Telegraph
The centre-back joined for a fee in the region of £5m last summer, but has only made 16 appearances for the club in all competitions last season.

Recent reports have suggested the Scot has been made available this summer, with a host of Championship clubs considering a move for the former Blackburn captain.

Hanley did a solid job when called upon last season, but currently resides as fourth choice centre-back at the club and is believed to have grown frustrated by his lack of first team opportunities.

A move away this summer makes sense for all parties, with the prevailing opinion being that the no nonsense defender is ideal for the Championship, but would struggle with the pace of the top flight.

Newcastle are believed to be asking for their money back for the Scotland captain, meaning the £4m bid is likely to be rejected, however I fully expect to see Hanley depart this summer.
