Sources in Portugal claimed yesterday that Newcastle had agreed a fee for Ruben Semedo, however his agent soon denied such reports, stating that the defender had not agreed a move to Tyneside. The deal went from all but done to cast into doubt in the space of half an hour!
Today Sky Sports news have provided an update on the potential transfer, claiming that Newcastle remain in ‘pole position’ to sign the Sporting Lisbon centre-back, as well as being ‘close’ to a couple of new additions:

Sky Sports report that Newcastle have in fact offered £10m for Semedo, however the Portuguese side are believed to be holding out for £13m, with with West Ham and West Brom also in the running for his signature.

So, whilst talk yesterday of a deal being agreed appears to be premature, it is reassuring to see that Newcastle remain very much in the frame to sign the highly-rated centre-back.
