NUFC scouts confirmed to have watched French international midfielder over the past week

Newcastle scouts have been spotted watching Marseille star Morgan Sanson during their 1-1 draw at Bordeaux over the weekend, with Scouts in Attendance revealing that we were one of several Premier League clubs present to watch the Frenchman on Sunday.

The 23-year old is a France U-21 international and has caught the eye since securing a €9m move from Montpellier in January and that has not gone unnoticed, with Newcastle being one of SIX Premier League representatives watching him over the weekend.

He can play anywhere across the midfield, but is perhaps being watched with the number 10 role in mind – with him also scoring a 94th minute equaliser for his side on Sunday.

He has an impressive 5 goals in 8 starts in Ligue 1 so far this season and has racked up 14 assists in his past 35 games across the last two season.

Decent stats and a player whose form in France is impressive so far this season, but so were Remy Cabella and Florian Thauvin – and we all know how their NUFC careers panned out!

It seems Sanson is a player we are checking out, but I’m not convinced we’ll be dipping our toe in the French market anytime soon unless he is made of much sterner stuff than our recent imports from across the channel.

  1. Don’t think that is fair on both Remy or Thauvin neither of them had a real chance at Newcastle, Thauvin in particular, although he really did not to be at Newcastle also. Remy was talented if not a bit too light for PL football, tendency to be pushed off the ball, much in the way as Perez is.
