Ex-NUFC player hits nail on the head during appearance live on Sky Sports – A must read

During an appearance on Sky Sports’ ‘The Debate‘ last night, ex-Newcastle United defender Steve Howey hit the nail on the head when addressing the current situation at the club.

He hit back at pundits on different media outlets (Wise, Keys and Gray?), claiming they ‘haven’t got a clue’ – also insisting that it’s absolute ‘nonsense’ that us Newcastle fans feel we have a god given right to success.

Here’s what he had to say, setting the record straight on Newcastle fans, Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez’s current situation:

“There’s a lot of criticism about NUFC fans – they think they’ve got a god given right to success. That’s nonsense. It’s not the case. You get people coming on on different media outlets and they haven’t got a clue.”

“NUFC fans are frustrated because they can’t see the club progressing under the current owner.

“Mr Ashley was on Sky and used this as a platform to say he’d get every penny generated and he wanted to sell the club. That didn’t happen.”

“Rafa Benitez has spent £13m on three players. It doesn’t get you anywhere.”

To say it went down well with fans on social media is an understatement and rightly so.

After weeks of hearing uninformed pundits and former pros defend Mike Ashley, question Rafa Benitez and us fans, it’s nice to actually hear Sky give a platform to someone who actually knows what they’re talking about when it comes to all things NUFC.

  1. Having just watched us getting beat 3-1 and out of a Cup at the early stages again – to hear Howey speak the way he did on The Debate was a much needed tonic.
He spoke with passion and with fact, and my only wish was that Wise or Keys had been there to try and argue with him.

Huge respect to Howey, and if our paths cross in the toon, the drinks are on me buddy ??
