According to the North-East reporter Aaron Stokes, Newcastle scouts were present to watch Porto’s Yacine Brahimi on Monday night ahead of a potential January move for the winger.
This is not the first time it’s been reported that club scouts have watched the Algerian playmaker, and even though it appears to be an overly ambitious target, his contract is due to expire in the summer – meaning he could well be sold on the cheap this month.
Brahimi has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a few years now, with him impressing in Portugal with 19 goals and 16 assists in the last season and a half , but this still seems like a deal we’re highly unlikely to complete.
As you can see below, Aaron Stokes states that Everton and ‘a number of European clubs’ have also been tracking Brahimi – which is ominous considering Ashley is usually unwilling to compete with any remotely ambitious club in the market.
Brahimi would be a rare high-calibre signing for the club and someone who could give us genuine quality and flare either out wide or in the number 10 role, but I can’t say I’m remotely confident here – even if a ‘cut-price’ deal may appeal to Ashley.
His wage demands will be big (due to the low fee and sheer number of clubs who’d be keen) and, as sad as it is to say, he’ll no doubt receive more attractive offers.
