Lascelles reveals the NUFC player who’s loved in the dressing room & a key man off the pitch

Jamaal Lascelles has hailed the influence DeAndre Yedlin has on the Newcastle squad, saying the ‘energetic’ American is ‘friends with everybody’ and often makes an effort to bring the squad together off the pitch.

At a time where the club has been really struggling both on and off the pitch, it’s great to hear about individuals like Yedlin who are clearly key in keeping the player’s morale high.

Here’s what Lascelles had to say about Yedlin during the pair’s chat with 90min this week:

“He’s a great player, he’s an amazing athlete.

“He brings so much energy to the changing room, he’s friends with everybody and gets everyone together. He’s just a good person to have round.

“I play next to him as well, I’m centre half and he’s right back. He’s a good human being.”

He often comes across as a charismatic character in his posts on social media, but it is interesting to see the skipper mention just how well liked he is in the dressing room.

A total lack of togetherness within the squad has been a big contributing factor towards our two relegations in the last 10 years, so it’s great to see we now have a group of lads who get on, care about each other and the club.

Here’s the full clip of Lascelles and Yedlin from 90mins:

  1. We have great squad players – on massive wages, don’t forget. But, we do not have one player who could walk in, as a starter, to any of the top 6 clubs. To have hope, you need to have a core of 3-4 players who rank in the top 50-60 players in the league, plus 3-4 quality juniors who would be regulars in any other bottom half of the table clubs, and enough financial and organisational backing from the owner/board to be able to bring 3-4 new faces, to spark up the team and keep competition high. We do not have one player who fits any of these categories – we have NO hope!
