Local media share promising Rafa Benitez ‘update’ – A sign he could be set to stay?

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle players and ‘dressing room insiders’ were left with ‘positive vibes’ and feeling confident Rafa Benitez would sign as they departed for their end-of-season break.

They claim that the Spaniard ‘spoke optimistically’ with the players last week, telling them he’d see them in July and be in touch over the summer.

Lee Ryder also states that the club’s coaching staff are all keen to stay next season, claiming they have several ‘fresh ideas’ to share in mind ahead of the new 2019/20 season.

Here’s a snippet from the Chronicle’s promising piece:

Newcastle United players are believed to be hopeful that Rafa Benitez will say yes to the contract extension on offer by the Magpies.

Both Benitez and the United hierarchy took time to digest the deal on the table for the Toon boss over the weekend, and talks remain ongoing.

The Chronicle understands that Benitez spoke optimistically with players last week.

Benitez told them he’d see them in July and promised to keep in touch with them over the summer.

And showing his quality as manager once again, Benitez also assured those who have been released at the end of their contracts that his coaching staff would help them find a new club this summer.

Another good sign coming from the United camp is that Benitez’s coaching staff are keen to stay on next season and have some fresh ideas already in mind to help United kick on.

United chiefs and Benitez will touch base again on Monday morning.

It must be said that it will be contract talks with Mike Ashley that ultimately decide Rafa’s fate, but as we wait for a result from these talks – which started last Thursday – it’s very promising to hear Benitez, the players and the staff are optimistic.

With talks set to take place again today, let’s hope we hear a positive conclusion as soon as possible, with there being no time to spare now the transfer window is open.
