Fulham, Derby, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield have all made loan offers for Jacob Murphy, according to Sun’s Phil Cadden.
With him struggling for game time over pre-season and Bruce needing to trim down his squad to 25 ahead of the new 2019/20 season, it’s reported that Murphy could be one of the players sacrificed this summer.
He may not be the only one who departs in the next 48 hours either, with the Chronicle also suggesting that Bruce will also look to move on fringe men Colback, Lazaar and Saivet.
Back to Murphy, he’s struggled to make any sort of impact since making a £10m move from Norwich two years ago but is still young and relatively inexperienced, so another loan stint in the second tier could make sense for all parties.
The winger spent the second half of the 2018/19 season with West Brom last season, however he failed to make any major impression at the Hawthorns.
His appearances over pre-season have largely come as a left wing-back – a position he’s hardly familiar with – and his chances of playing in a more attacking role next season seem even slimmer given Joelinton, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Muto, Gayle, Atsu and Aarons all seem ahead of him in Steve Bruce’s pecking order.
Any of Derby, Huddersfield, Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday would represent decent loan moves away, all being sides who will be looking to gain promotion.
That said, the most important thing for him right now is regular game time, so we’d be wise to send him to any Championship side who would guarantee that.
Good idea to let him go out on loan. Would also like to see Atsu go out also, alongside the others mentioned.
