Matty Longstaff looks set to stay at Newcastle today according to north-east reporter David Coverdale, who claims it will take a ‘late surprise’ to see him head out on loan today.
Elsewhere, the Mails’ Craig Hope claims that highly-rated 19-year-old centre-back Kelland Watts is now on his way to Stevenage to complete a loan move.
Watts was included in the first-team squad for our final game of the season at Fulham last season and has also been training with the senior side over the summer, but now looks for a spell in League Two:
As for Longstaff, it looks like Bruce is keen to keep him around after several bright displays over pre-season, with him ending the summer in stunning style with a 25-yard screamer against St-Etienne.
A part of me wonders if a loan move and regular game time in League One or the Championship would’ve been the best move for his development – something his brother benefited from hugely at Blackpool a few years ago.
That said, he could yet replace the likes of Colback and Saivet in our senior side and benefit from training with a strong group of players week in week out.
