Allan Saint-Maximin had one of his poorer games in a black and white shirt on Saturday – but he’s been the first to admit that in a refreshingly honest response to a Newcastle fan on Twitter.
The Frenchman was our biggest bright spark at times – showing he’s still a real threat even on his ‘off days’ – but we say a lot of poor decision making, a few too many loose touches and him being dispossessed a little easily at times in our 0-0 draw with Oxford.
After a Newcastle fan suggested it was his ‘worst game’ yet for the club, here’s what he had to say:
“Not gonna lie, that’s true it’s my worst game so far, no excuses…
“Now I’m gonna work even harder to be more in shape!
“Thank you for the support.”
He may have been below par on Saturday, but I love this from Saint-Maximin – and I love his honesty and openness with fans.
He’s erratic at times, sometimes needs to get his head up and play the pass – not try to beat another man – but he’s without doubt our most exciting player and one of few in this side that are capable of creating something from nothing.
With him brought off early by Bruce and looking as though he was slightly holding back at times over the weekend, let’s hope he’s back at it and 100% fit when Norwich arrive on Saturday!
