Promising local lad Tom Allan has been spotted training with the Newcastle United first team once again this week.
The 20-year-old has bagged 10 goals at U-23 level this season – scoring the winner in our Premier League Cup clash with West Brom in midweek – but has been called up by Bruce once again, with official club snaps showing him in senior sessions on Wednesday.
A few U-23 talents were drafted in by Bruce in the build up to recent cup games against Rochdale and Oxford, with Sorensen, Francillette, Toure, Longelo, Cass and Young all being spotted in the odd session at Benton around that time, but Allan seems to be the one ‘reserve’ player who’s continuing to train with the first team.
As a result, he’s featured once under Steve Bruce – bagging an assist in a 4-1 win over Rochdale – and has been named on the bench in five other first team fixtures, seeing him miss the U-23’s last THREE Premier League 2 games as a result.
With the two Longstaff’s breaking through over the past 12 months and Bruce seeming keen to give our best young talents a chance, could Allan be the next local lad burst onto the scene over the coming months?
He’ll certainly be one to watch over pre-season!
