Taylor: “The future is bright under Alan Pardew.”

Taylor gives Pardew the thumbs up.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Steven Taylor. There was once a time where you couldn’t shut him up and every journalist seemed to be able to coax a little titbit from Taylor. Even Louise Taylor managed it…..

Since then though it’s been an altogether quieter approach from the London-born defender. This is a welcome change as the drum banging, which some liked and for which Kevin Nolan now gets lambasted for, had become rather tedious. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to hear it, sometimes, but not all the time!

Anyway, Taylor has been telling us all today how he feels that the future could be bright under Alan Pardew and believes that the team are playing the right kind of football at the moment. Speaking to The Chronicle, Taylor had this to say:

“The future is bright under Alan Pardew, and I have the best years of my career still in front of me – and I want them to be here. I want to play the next five and a half years here and then hopefully the rest of my career after that. That’s all I have ever wanted.”

Those are good words from Taylor, and I’m happy that he is happy. I have been critical of him in the past, but he proved me wrong by agreeing a new deal at the club when I thought that he would be gone. I still have reservations about his ability and tendency to suffer from a rush of blood to the head, but on his day he can be a real asset to the team.

Taylor then went on to praise Pardew for getting his contract sorted, and for trying to play the right kind of football:

“It’s the best feeling ever. The new gaffer came in and everything was sorted. I’m all set up now and excited about the future. That is my main focus now. I’m concentrated on the long term.”

“We’re doing the right things and looking to play the right type of football. That’s what we want. The main thing is we’re playing well and we have put some good results together.”

“We had a hard-fought win against Birmingham and those are the teams we should be beating. Anybody below us or around us we’re looking for a big result. We want to get a bit of a gap going.”

“We’ve got some big games coming up here and this isn’t an easy place to come still.”

Good words from Taylor, and I personally find it hard to disagree with any of what he says. Do I think we are playing some good football under Pardew? Yes. Do I think our results have been decent? Yes. Do I think Pardew is the future? Time will tell on that one, but I’ve managed to get over my initial feeling of being underwhelmed by his appointment and have been impressed with him so far.

They can all, collectively, continue to impress us by beating Everton on Saturday!

  2. I don’t like Taylor to be honest, Mike for me is a far better centre back. Mike and Colo should keep playing.

The fact he’s geordie doesn’t make a difference or make him more loyal then other players. Mike is a better defender.

  3. Well, if Everton plays like they played against Reading it will be long balls being thumped up towards the Newcastle goal. It will be nice to have the taller Willo and sly Colo under those desperate lobs as I think they can out-muscle and out-position the Toffee forwards. IF NUFC keep the ball on the deck, our left side can dictate the play.

I expect Everton will circle the wagons, putt up their socks, tighten their bests, etc… to atone for their horrid play vs. Reading. But I think their heads will drop if the Toon score first.

  4. Another prediction I got right!
Taylor to sign long contract whilst yous were slating him cos you thought he wanted to move. He told my source throughout he was never leaving.
You hate the fact I have a source and you don’t. Now repeat dat back to me.

  5. Meant to add some good words there from Wor Taylor and I would agree with him, I dont think anyone could say that were not playing better footie and we look a far stronger team 😆

  6. BS No9 😉 thats right Taylor wasn’t loyal and was looking for the 1st chance he could get to get away and that was the reason he was trying to screw the club 😆

  7. Ice @ 8 its amazing how many people are writing for .org now but when Toonsy was there he was left to do most of the work 😉

  8. Everton won’t have Cahill or Fellaini. That renders them totally toothless outside Leighton Baines crosses.

Speaking of which – how about Leighton Baines in the summer 😆

  10. Mind you, if I was getting more help I probably wouldn’t have got pissed off and walked and then this place probably wouldn’t exist. Clouds and silver linings etc etc 🙂

  11. Off topic, but check out our team from the last time we played Everton at home 2008/09

Harper, Steven Taylor, Bassong, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Ryan Taylor, Butt, Nolan, Duff (Gutierrez 46), Ameobi (Martins 58), Lovenkrands (Smith 77).

The score was 0-0, not that much of a difference from the team that could be playing this weekend. The only player I miss is Bassong, who we got £8m for and Willo is a more than adequate replacement (and English). We now have Toite instead of Butt (a no brainer even in Butts Man U pomp). Fulham are welcome to Duff and that leaves Martina or Best. As much as I liked Oba i think Bests recent form would get him a start. The Manager…. Kinnear.

  12. Big Dave @12 I should have said I dont like him playing centre back.

I would play him right back, he loves getting forward, when he played there against Everton in the 2-2 draw he did class. Scored and set up 1.

  13. Jobey07 😆

By the way, he is from another forum and said he was going to do that. He does come out with meaningful stuff at times 😆

  14. Celtic -v- Rangers about to start. Watch it and check out Emilio Izaguirre at left back for Celtic.

I fully expect us to at least be strongly linked with him in the summer.

  15. Anyone got the City vs Villa game on? Can’t believe the Villa fans are singing sh@t support and empty seats.

When they came here they were awful, didnt come close to selling out.

  16. No, I am watching the Old Firm and our future signings in Beram Kayal and Emilio Izaguirre.

  17. We haven’t been – yet. Just my opinion here.

We need cover for defensive midfield and left back and these two are ripping it up and getting heavy interest from Man Utd. They are exactly what we should be looking for to fill the squad for a good price and for good quality.

Kayal is only 22 and Izaguirre is only 24. Perfect cover for the first team and good enough to play first choice too if needed.

  18. @funkyjesus 39

I’ve never seen either of them play but if we were looking at them we should be careful, Hutton was a class act in that league and look at him now at Spurs. Doesn’t take much at all to make a good impression in the SPL.

      (Quote)

  19. I like Kayal in the games i’ve seen him play, looks tidy on the ball, and izaguirre is a defo yeah for me if we lose jose.

      (Quote)

  20. I’d take Alan Hutton too. He is a good right back but he is probably someone who would be natural at right wing as his attack play is superb and better than his defensive play.

  21. Now we have all the CB’s fit it will be interesting to see what he does. I think Williamson is a better centre half personally but it’s nice to have Taylor there if we need him.

  22. Taylor was suprisingly good at RB. Wonder if Pardew knows that. Mind you, even I one of Simpson’s harshest critics, I have to admit he is looking better atm.

  23. Away from my scouting hobby – I think Williamson and Taylor need rotation depending on the opponent.

A bit, Stoke-esque team would suit WIlliamson more due to his height and more “straight forward” play. A team where we can have a bit of running and a bit more speed, I think Taylor suites. His solo show against Everton a few years ago show he suites this.

Both can get plenty of games with this rotation and we keep full strength against a variety of opponents.

  25. Anybody watching City vs. Villa.

Enrique- ‘It’d flattering that big clubs such as Liverpool and Aston Villa are interested in me’. 😆 😆

  26. Class finish from Balotelli like.

Heskey is awful man, just a much worse Shola 😆

      (Quote)

  27. Funky I just dont think Colo would benefit from rotation, I think the defence benefits from as little changes as possible.
But I do think we will see the return of Taylor as CB very soon 😉

      (Quote)

  28. Yeah, rotation isn’t ideal but we’ve seen Taylor struggle against physical teams with Williamson excelling and Williamson struggling against speed with Taylor being better. Can we not merge them into one player or something?

El-Hadji Diouf starting a fight with Neil Lennon and a huge fight in the tunnel at the Old Firm. Great stuff – especially if Broony kicks phup out of Diouf.

  29. Taylor and Williamson are two different players. Not rocket science.
Williamson was tormented versus Arse. He hadn’t a clue where van persie was all day. Williamson likes the play all to be in front of him and if it is he is a very good defender. Distribution is shocking though. the look of panic on his face when in posession is funnily entertaining. After Arse he has bounced back well and should be applauded.
Taylor a bit more mobile. Better with the ball and tracks runners better. Is prone to the bramble blunder and waves his arms about in the box

  30. This old Firm game is a goof watch, best player on the park is the South Koreon named Ki. Some disgraceful tackles going in and not getting booked, then the ref is booking players for absolutely nowt.

As a lot of you know, I stay in Dundee, and it’s mental as Dundee have 2 teams FC and United and no one supports them, they all support the Glasgow teams 😯

One mate who is a Dundee fan summed it up for me nicely….

“Rangers and Celtic, twa cheeks fae the same arse”

      (Quote)

  31. I am a Celtic boy, so I love this match. It’s always a big fight.

Kayal and Izaguirre and running things alongside the aforementioned Ki.

    Diouf is a tosser.

  32. 3 of us went to watch Celtic in a pre season game in Germany many moons ago, a Geordie a Celtic and a Rangers fan……what a weekend, happy days 😀

      (Quote)

  33. Izaguirre has been good tonight – but he has been stopped him being great because the Rangers right back (Ricky Foster) has a lot of pace about him. His mere presence has been a fright for Rangers though and it has opened up the Celtic midfield of Kayal and Ki to dominate.

Rangers have not had a shot on target and it’s 90 minutes now. That’s shocking.

      (Quote)

  34. Ally McCoist starting with Lennon for the second time. This Rangers time have been a disgrace tonight. Three players sent off, pushing (literally) the ref about and everyone targetting Neil Lennon.

Lennon will get bullets in the post again probably.
