We’ve got giddying sums of money coming into the club if we sell Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum. If the club received the funds the papers are talking about, that’s £70m added to the bank balance.
But will Rafa be given the money to spend?
The bookmakers may be confident that the pair are to leave St James Park and I don’t think any of us will argue with that but with that kind of money available, will Rafa have a transfer warchest or is he going to get given some of it?
Will Mike Ashley look at the money as a way of investing in the future or a means to pay down the debt?
The concern has to be that Ashley will see the money come in and as much as he loves the club, look at it as way of extracting some of his investment.
We won’t be able to spend £70m this window on the quality of players we need but am I naive in wanting it held for January and next summer if we need it?
