Henri Saivet has left Newcastle United for a season-long loan deal with St Etienne, reports The Chronicle.

The deal completed today is another piece of deadwood shipped out, another one we hope will prove their worth at a new club so that we don’t get them back again.

It seems that Manu Riviere was the one who convinced Saivet to leave this transfer window rather than the certain knowledge that he wasn’t going to get a look in as far as the first team goes.

Saivet described himself as a “lively player with technique”, something he kept well-hidden during his time on Tyneside. But as he is on his way, it’s churlish not to wish him bon voyage, hope it works out well for you.
