Speaking to talkSPORT (via Here is the City), former Sunderland midfielder Michael Gray has predicted that Newcastle United will earn over 100 points in the Championship this season.
Newcastle United headed into the current Championship campaign as favourites but following a slow start, many thought that the Magpies may well struggle in the second tier of English football.
Nonetheless, Newcastle have managed to recover from their difficult start to the campaign and have moved into top spot recently following a fine 3-0 triumph over Ipswich Town.
While there is evidently a lot of work to be done before the St. James’ Park faithful can start celebrating, it is clear to see that Newcastle are arguably the strongest team in the division and it would take a brave man to bet against them claiming the Championship title this season.
Former Sunderland star Michael Gray has now gone on to speak regarding Newcastle’s promotion chances and he has stated his belief that not only will the Tyneside based outfit lift the title but do so with a record points haul.
Gray told talkSPORT, “Obviously, I’ve got my allegiances with Sunderland. But when I’ve been to St. James’ Park over the last two or three seasons I’ve seen exactly the same thing when I go: full to the rafters, supporting a side through thick and thin.
“Rafa’s there now they’re all behind him, they’re playing some wonderful football. They’re gonna get over 100 points this season – I think they’re already four points better off than they were when Chris Hughton got them up last time. I can’t see anybody stopping them, they’re all playing for second place in the Championship.”
