Benitez speaks about the possibility of starting with both Gayle and Mitrovic

November 4, 2016November 4, 2016 Andy The Magpie

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has gone on to speak regarding whether Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic could both start in the coming weeks.

Dwight Gayle has been in sensational form in front of goal this season but during his absence due to injury, Aleksandar Mitrovic has more than managed to step up to the plate by scoring four goals in just two appearances.

With Gayle now fit once again, manager Rafael Benitez faces a real dilemma of whether to reinstate the 25-year-old to the starting lineup or continue with the in-form Mitrovic.

Understandably, the Newcastle fans have expressed their desire to see both Gayle and Mitrovic in the starting lineup and now to wet their appetite, Benitez has gone on to talk up the possibility of both the strikers being named from the start against Cardiff.

Benitez was quoted saying by the Shields Gazette, “They have to compete. The fans are asking if we can play with two strikers. It’s a good to create that debate.

“The team is doing well. He (Mitrovic) is fine. We will see if they can play together, or one at a time. But I’m happy they are scoring each game.”
