Newcastle United slap a sizeable £18million asking price on Leeds’ target

August 29, 2017August 29, 2017 Andy The Magpie

According to reports from the Daily Star, Newcastle United have set an asking price of around £18million for Leeds United target Dwight Gayle.

Dwight Gayle scored a stunning 23 goals in the Championship last season to help Newcastle United earn promotion into the Premier League but it suddenly looks like the 26-year-old has been made surplus to requirements at St. James’ Park during the current campaign.

Gayle’s poor performances in the first two matches of the season has put his ability to perform in the Premier League into question once again and the arrival of Joselu from Stoke City recently means that the former Crystal Palace man has been reduced to a back up choice.

As a result, it is believed that manager Rafael Benitez would be open to selling Gayle in the final days of the summer transfer window and Championship side Leeds United have expressed an interest in signing the prolific striker.

However, Newcastle are not willing to allow Gayle to leave on the cheap and has allegedly slapped an £18million asking price which may deter Leeds United even though they recently sold Chris Wood to Burnley for around £15million.
