Sunderland fans have reacted to news earlier this week that NUFC midfielder Jack Colback could be heading back to Wearside in January and they make for amusing reading.
According to an exclusive by TEAMtalk, the United outcast could be set to make a shock return to Sunderland in next month’s January transfer window after being told he is free to leave Newcastle by Rafa Benitez.
Here’s some of the best reactions on Twitter from the Mackems – to say they aren’t keen on a reunion is an understatement:
Re signing Colback would be the most Sunderland thing ever. It just would. Topped possibly only by re signing AJ on his release from prison.
Which btw…… ?

I see the @SunderlandEcho are regurgitating the Colback to Sunderland story again. Even our Club wouldn’t be that stupid to bring back that Judas. He’d get lynched! #SAFC

If all Colback had done was play for Ponteland Airport FC then I wouldn’t mind. He left to join them knowing the rivalry and said he was going to a bigger club. So if he comes back from the land of planes why not bring Lee Clark back as director of football? #safc

Colback to #safc ??? he already knows that cannot happen. Catts, N’Dong, Gibson, McNair and Steven Hawking already better in his CM position so we well covered anyway. The jawdees calling him ginger Pirlo ? **** me they havnt got a clue about football man.

If Colback was actually a good player who would improve us I'd look past what has happened but the fact is he's absolutely ***** and not as good as some of our u23's he can **** off! !! #safc

Ad rather see me nana strumming one out than see Colback in a red and white shirt again. #SAFC

As you can see, the vast majority are passionately against the idea, but there’s a few who seems to be keen on the idea:
Wouldn't be adverse to Jack Colback returning to Sunderland. Lot of fallacies written about him, was more the club though that treated him so badly. #safc

Tin Hat firmly on but Colback would improve our midfield #safc

Colback burned his bridges with #SAFC with those quotes when he left. However, he’d walk into this current side.

Colback arrived on Tyneside in the summer of 2014, but he looks like he’s played his last game in black and white.
Having reportedly turned down loan moves to Wolves and Hull over the summer due to ‘geographical reasons’, heseems to be keen on remaining in the North-East. Step in Sunderland!
It would do us a favour. An NUFC outcast and one who’s now doing so little to pick up his alleged £40k a week.
