Benitez now pushing to secure FOUR new signings – Two strikers, two defenders, one medical

Thankfully, It’s been a slightly more eventful day on the transfer front for Newcastle United, with it emerging that one player looks all set to sign – whilst three other deals appear to have been lined up by Rafa Benitez.

Starting with the very good news and it looks like Chancel Mbemba’s replacement has been found, with Sky Sports confirming that we have activated Fabian Schar’s £3m release clause. As confirmed below, he’s now on his way to complete his medical.

In addition, there’s also been some promising news on the striker front today.

Not only are the Daily Mail claiming that Benitez has made progress in his attempts to sign Salomon Rondon – with a ‘loan swap deal’ involving Dwight Gayle now looking likely – they claim that we are now in advanced talks to sign Mainz striker Yoshinori Muto for £9m.

A name slightly out of the blue (despite the odd link so far this summer), but signs that Rafa is ‘wheeling and dealing’ to bring in TWO new strikers of his choice.

Finally, our interest in Bristol City’s Joe Bryan has been confirmed, with Benitez said to be a ‘fan’ of the left-back. Wolves and West Ham have been linked, but a move to St James’ Park has been described as his most likely destination by the Bristol Post.

Has Ashley finally buckled or is money from sales finally being distributed?

  1. Dubravka, Ki, Kenedy, Rondon, Muto, Schar and Bryan are all very smart signings, if the ones not signed come off of course, but while all could potentially start, Kenedy is the only get you out of your seat player. We desperately need to splash some cash which is blatantly obvious, but I don’t believe these players will spark half as much without some magic around them. They’re reliable and workmanlike on the whole.

  2. Kevin that is exactly the type of player that Rafa wants. Good team ethic and everyone working for each other. I’ll be over the moon if these deals come off.

Yes he wants those type of players, and so do I, but he’s always had a Torres, a Gerrard, a Babel, OK and I’m joking about Babel, but every team, Including all of Rafa’s previous teams, need those two, three special players. We have one in Kenedy but I’d want to be seeing a number ten, a winger, and perhaps a box to box mid. I’d love to see a forward who is more prolific than the ones we are supposedly after but that’s very unlikely to happen.

I agree with most comments so far but what needs to be remembered is that Rafa buys “good ” players and works on them.
Torres was a 20-25 goal better. Rafa made him a mad goal better.
If he can work with these grafters we can be good. If he makes them better with the likes of Kenedy, Shelvey and Richie feeding them and helping them create, then that has to be a bonus on MA expectations. All we need is the head of the spine. A man to score.
Lascelles runs the back line well enough and let’s be fair, he does lead that squad with fire in his belly. 1 or 2 learn his ways for the badge and we will surprise
