Despite being all set to sign a two-year deal worth £100,000-per-week at Qatar side Al-Gharafa, Mo Diame has now completed a sudden move elsewhere earlier today.
The Senegalese midfielder has instead signed with fellow Qatari side Al Ahli, with Estad al Doha reporting that he was denied a move to Al-Gharafa after ‘failing a medical’.
Nevertheless, a move to the Middle-East is now complete, with arriving on a free after being released by Newcastle United when his contract expired on June 30th:
The 32-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the club, keeping him in Qatar until 2021.
Ironically, Diame was a big favourite of Steve Bruce’s – the man in contention to take over on Tyneside this week.
Bruce described him as a ‘class act’ during the pairs’ time together at Hull, with Diame playing a huge part in their promotion back to the Premier League a few years ago.
Good luck in Qatar, Mo!
keeping him there till 2012.. I knew Qatar waa behind the times, but not that far.
