NUFC set to sign South American no.10 as ‘mystery deal’ is revealed in new report

Last night, The Sun’s Alan Nixon revealed on Twitter that we were closing in on the signing of a ‘surprise South American‘.

He didn’t give away a name, but said he was a ‘low-cost’ player who was under the age of 24.

A few hours on and a report from the Daily Mail’s Simon Jones in the early hours of Thursday morning has revealed the player Nixon appears to have been referring to – Peruvian playmaker Rodrigo Vilca.

The no.10, who’s ‘on the brink’ of signing at St James’, plays for Deportivo Municipal – one of the biggest clubs in Peru – and it’s reported he could be loaned straight back out if and when he completes a £250,000 move to Newcastle United.

Hardly the exciting first-team signing some may have been hoping for, however the 21-year-old is highly-rated and has recently been called up to Peru’s national squad for the first time.

The Mail report that he’s regarded as an exciting talent, but could be loaned out for first-team experience – along with the fact Newcastle ‘fear he may lack the physical capabilities to make an impact in the Premier League just yet’.

Hopefully the next Nolberto Solano at St James’ Park!

Here’s some clips of him in action:
