Back in January, Sky Sports announced ‘Newcastle United have made a loan enquiry for Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham.’
This was prior to a successful loan bid for Joe Willock, but our previous interest in the Frenchman feels potentially significant given he’s just become available to sign on a free transfer.
Just as our chase for a couple of new midfielders has began to get desperate, with Arsenal yet to make a final decision on our no.1 target, the former Celtic man’s availability could be of interest.
Not only is he a former target and a good age at 25, it’s also worth noting that Ntcham is represented by the same agency as Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles and Dwight Gayle.
With this in mind, he could well be offered our way given our previous interest, lack of budget and need for a dynamic new midfielder or two.
Don’t get me wrong, this wouldn’t be a move that gets fans excited for the new season and would be risky based on his recent track record – he’s fallen out of with Celtic and has just had a disastrous loan spell at Marseille – however it seems just the sort of deal we’d now look at.
Known for his ball carrying and ability to play passes into the final third, the former France U21 star could well be one to watch in the coming weeks.
