Toon legend Alan Shearer has selected four Newcastle players – Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin – in his Premier League team of the week after our scintillating display against Manchester City.
Jack Harrison – the £35m-rated Leeds winger who we reportedly bid for last week – also makes big Al’s 11 after he bagged a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Chelsea.
Almiron found himself on the scoresheet for the first time this season and has already equalled his goal tally from last year with a darting run into the box that was almost ruled out for offside.
Trippier – another saved by VAR – showed his profesional nature once more and was also on the scoresheet to put us 3-1 up after he buried his free-kick into the top left corner and far beyond the reach of Ederson.
Despite conceding three, Pope put in yet another world class performance and made a handful of quality saves, including a one-on-one with Eriling Haaland, to ensure the points were shared at St James’ Park.
Finally, the talented and exciting Saint-Maxmin was the most impressive of the lot, recording two assists and winning the free-kick for our third with his skilful runs that had the experienced Kyle Walker running in circles.
If the Frenchman can keep up these types of dazzling displays week in week out, there’s no telling how far he and the club could go in the world of football.
