Howe’s four-word transfer vow and worrying update on Callum Wilson injury – Watch here

When asked if Newcastle United would have a busy end to the summer transfer window, Eddie Howe told the press – “Yes, we’ve got to.”

After denying that Joao Pedro’s proposed move to St James’ Park is ‘done’ and revealing that Callum Wilson is now having scans to determine the severity of a hamstring problem picked up on Sunday, he clearly realises the importance of getting deals finalised over the next few days.

The 30-year-old has scored twice in our opening three games this season and looked razor sharp in that 3-3 draw against Man City, but was forced off in the 69th minute after feeling ‘tightness’ in his hamstring.

Howe seems to think it’s not serious and says the player is “OK”, but it’s a worry that he’s already feeling it three games into the new season and a timely reminder that we need another striker to arrive before next Thursday’s deadline.

Here’s what the boss has had to say on transfers and Wilson, starting with the latter:

Eddie Howe on Callum Wilson’s injury:

“He’s OK. The normal process is he’s gone for a scan and we’re waiting for those results.

“We hope it’s not too serious.”

“I don’t think it will be serious, but with hamstrings you have to be very, very careful.

“We will wait and see the results and see how long he’s going to be out.”

Eddie Howe on potential incomings:

“If I knew [who we are signing] I would be able to tell you…

“Currently it’s an ever changing thing…I would love to add to it [squad] and bring in players in who can make a real difference to team.

“We are working very hard to achieve that.”

Eddie Howe when asked if we’ll have a active end to the transfer window:

 “Yes, we’ve got to.”
