According to The Telegraph, Newcastle have enquired about Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.
Luke Edwards reports that we have reached out to the Dutch giants in the ‘last few days’ – suggesting we are still in the market for another midfielder – but it seems they currently value the Mexican at more than we are willing to pay.
The same piece also reveals that we are yet to give up in our pursuit of Jack Harrison, stating that we’ve ‘talking to Leeds’ about a late move for the in-form winger who’s started the new season with a goal and three assists.
However, The Telegraph understands that he’s valued at over £40m by Elland Road chiefs. This has not ended our interest – which leaves me wondering if the player is keen on a move – but it’s left a move looking unlikely unless Leeds agree to reduce their demands now the player has entered the penultimate year of his contract.
Chelsea are another club we appear to be in close contact with, as Edwards reveals that we are still waiting to find out whether Christian Pulisic, Conor Gallagher or Armando Broja will be allowed to leave on loan.
If so, it would then come down to what percentage of their wages Chelsea would be willing to pay, as Pulisic, for example, reportedly receives more than our current top earner.
As for Joao Pedro, The Telegraph claim that a move hasn’t been agreed just yet – despite Fabrizio Romano claiming it was a ‘done deal’ last night – although it seems there is plenty of confidence that this one will get done in the coming days.
