Just moments ago, a flurry of shock reports emerging from Spain claimed that Newcastle United had struck a deal to sign Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak.
Now, just a few minutes later, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has confirmed that these huge claims arriving from the Basque country are true, revealing that his move to St James’ Park is believed to be ‘imminent.’
Ornstein claims that we have agreed a fee in the region of £60m for the highly-rated Swede, who scored in Real Sociedad’s 4-1 defeat to Barcelona over the weekend.
Isak is regarded as one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe and will arrive on a club record deal, surpassing the £40m fee we paid Hoffenheim for Joelinton just a few years ago.
The 6ft 4′ striker possesses an impressive turn of pace for a player of his height and has bagged 44 goals and eight assists in 132 appearances for Real Sociedad.
Where this leaves our pursuit of Joao Pedro is anyone’s guess, but this is a huge statement of intent from our new owners and the capture of a massive young talent with the potential to explode in England under Eddie Howe!
