Confirmed Newcastle team vs Tranmere – 10 changes and Elliot Anderson handed first start

The team sheets are out ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup clash on Merseyside, seeing us take on Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

Here’s the side Eddie Howe has gone with against the League Two side, seeing him make NINE changes from the side that drew 3-3 with Man City on Sunday.

STARTING XI: Darlow – Krafth, Lascelles, Dummett, Targett – Willock, S Longstaff, Anderson – Ritchie, Wood, Murphy.

SUBS: Gillespie Trippier, Botman, Joelinton, Lewis, Fernandez, Manquillo, Almiron, Guimaraes.

As expected, Elliot Anderson has been handed his first competitive start for the club, playing alongside Willock and Sean Longstaff against the side he scored against during his loan spell at Bristol Rovers last season.

Darlow starts ahead of an ‘ill’ Martin Dubravka, Targett returns at left-back, Dummett partners Lascelles at centre-back and Krafth comes in for Trippier, who is named on the bench alongside the likes of Bruno, Botman, Joelinton and Almiron.

Ritchie, Murphy and Wood make up the front three, while Lewis and Fernandez have returned to the squad after another week of training under their belts.

Callum Wilson (hamstring), Ryan Fraser (groin), Jonjo Shelvey (hamstring), Dan Burn (concussion) and Kell Watts (knee) all miss out, with Jamal Lewis

The third round draw will be made after tonight’s games, with Newcastle United set to be number 31 in the hat should we make it past Tranmere.
