As reported by The Telegraph, Ainsley Maitland-Niles was ‘keen’ to join Newcastle over the final few days of the summer window, but Arsenal were one of several Premier League sides refusing to do business with us.
With our new found wealth due to the Saudi-backed ownership, it seems other Premier League clubs are already worried about a new competitor, and are doing everything in their powers to keep us as low down the table as possible.
Luke Edwards’ revealing piece also states that Chelsea saw us as a ‘rival’ so refused to loan us Conor Gallagher or Christian Pulisic – despite Amanda Staveley’s friendship with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly – but others such as Everton, Wolves and Aston Villa were also unwilling to discuss transfers after we showed interest in the likes of Anthony Gordon, Douglas Luiz and Leander Dendoncker.
This was most apparent in the final week of the window where we aimed to secure at least one loan signing and another permanent, but were outright denied by our rivals.
Eddie Howe made reference to this in his press conference last Friday, admitting a host of clubs showed no interest in doing business with the club, while others applied the Newcastle tax by demanding crazy prices.
If nothing else, for several clubs to be already terrified of a side that finished 11th last year, it shows significant progress for Newcastle in the word of football which can only grow as each transfer window goes by.

Villas decision to keep Douglas Luiz has nothing to do with who you are.
We refused Arsenals more serious bid too. Along with brushing aside interest from Juventus, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, etc.
We just didn’t want to sell the player.
Its not like we haven’t done business with you already, when we loaned & then sold you Matt Targett.
Others might be guilty of the accusation, & I can’t/won’t comment on those, as I have no idea, or interest, in whether they are or not.
But don’t lump Villa into the same category…

Andy think the post is more about what luke Edwards had wrote that’s all personally think premier league clubs will do everything they can from now on to avoid doing business with us so looks like where shopping abroad

Like I said, Villa aren’t a part of that problem you might be having.
As proven by Targett.
Luiz just wasn’t for sale as the money we could get from several clubs wasn’t worth losing him for the year & then having to purchase a replacement in the last day of the window.
It’s always difficult at that time, as Newcastle or not, selling clubs have the upper hand & will try to work out the best deal for themselves.
We are hoping to get Luiz to sign a new contract too. Not sure if he will, but we will try to keep him until it’s obvious to us that we can’t.
You might find more value for money abroad btw. Could become a blessing in disguise. Boubacar Kamara is the perfect example of great value for money on a free transfer because clubs like Atletico, AC Milan, Marseille, etc, despite having Champions League football, couldn’t compete with the financial package we could offer Kamara. As is the case with Newcastle now too.
Although some clubs will still try to get as much as they can for their players, which is their right, & they may bump up the price purely because they know you have funds.
We have faced the same problem both home & abroad because while it goes under the media radar, Villa are also extremely wealthy these days.

Yeah I feel its unfair of the writer to include you too, We loaned Targett last season too, I also dont feel the prices qouted for Calvern-Lewen were that bad considering he’s English and theres a tax on that, and the fact he’s been consistently linked with a host of top clubs for years, given the current market 60 mil would be about right (i dont think hes worth that) but still you have to take the hype into account.
