According to journalist Jose Passini, Newcastle were ‘delighted’ with Botafogo’s young forward Jeffinho after scouting him during their 3-1 win over Santos this week.
Newcastle are said to be one of several English clubs who are ‘monitoring’ the youngster, with Ajax, Werder Bremen, AZ Alkmaar and an unnamed side in Portugal also credited with interest.
It has been suggested that the 22-year-old may have already played his final game for the Serie A side and that this could be the ‘biggest sale’ in the club’s entire history.
He is one of several young Brazilians who’ve been linked with a move to Tyneside in 2023, with recent reports suggesting we’re also keen on Santos’ Angelo Gabriel and Vaso de Gama duo Andrey Santos and Eguinaldo.
Jeffinho only recently signed a three-year-contract back in August after a successful loan spell with the club, but with such serious interest from European giants he could well be on his way out already.
It is unclear how much the forward would cost, especially given his new deal, but it seems he is the latest South American being scouted by Toon talent spotters.
