As revealed by The Chronicle, Newcastle United scouts have travelled to Qatar to take a closer look at a host of potential January targets.
One of which is believed to be Brighton star Leandro Trossard, with Lee Ryder revealing that Toon officials are keep a close eye on the in-form winger.
Despite his outstanding form in the Premier League, where he’s bagged seven goals and three assists in 14 games so far, the 27-year-old has been named on the bench in each of Belgium’s opening two games so far.
He has featured in both games against Canada and Morocco, playing a total of 44 minutes, but he and Newcastle United scouts out in Qatar will be hoping he earns a start in Belgium’s crucial clash with Croatia on Thursday afternoon.
Trossard’s stock is on the rise following his prolific start to the season, however his contract situation remains up in the air. As things stand, he’s out of contract next summer, but it’s believed the Seagulls have an option to extend his deal by another 12 months; a clause they’ll almost certainly activate to protect his value.
