Jeff Stelling reveals stunning Toon stat and talks January transfer rumours with Paul Merson

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jeff Stelling revealed Sven Botman’s ‘amazing record’ of zero defeats as a Newcastle player and discussed potential big name signings with Paul Merson.

The Magpies have only lost one game so far this season to Liverpool, but the Dutch defender didn’t play a part in that game meaning he holds a record of 17 games played, 12 wins, five draws and zero defeats – a period which has also featured 10 clean sheets and just eight goals conceded.

With our incredible form lifting us up to third, Stelling and Merson discussed the possibility of improving even further in January with the likes of James Maddison, Christian Pulisic and Marcus Thuram having all been linked.

On the potential transfers, the 54-year-old described them as being ‘brilliant’ signings which would ‘send out the right message’ in terms of the type of players we’re trying to attract and where we want to be in the near future.

The former Arsenal man also revealed on the show how he believes ‘Newcastle will be around for a long, long time’ after being impressed with both Eddie Howe and all the players already at the club.
