Newcastle have joined the race to sign Lyon right-back Malo Gusto, according to the Daily Mail.
The highly-rated 19-year-old – who played alongside Bruno Guimaraes in France – is also wanted by Manchester United, but it’s thought both clubs are planning summer bids after learning he won’t leave for anything less than £35m in January.
Gusto has been a key player for the Ligue 1 side over the past 18 months, featuring in 14 games this season, helping them to the quarter-finals of the Europa League last season and representing France U21s as a result of his impressive rise.
The piece adds that Eddie Howe is in the market for a long-term successor to Kieran Trippier, aware of the fact the England international will turn 33 next year.
Newcastle are known to be in the market for a young defender in the coming weeks having already been linked with a host of right-backs, such as Leeds’ Cody Drameh, West Ham’s Harrison Ashby and Iván Fresneda of Real Valladolid.
