First appointment of Saudi era leaves Newcastle after tough 14 months – Official statement

Newcastle United have announced that Elliott Dickman, the first appointment under the new ownership, has officially left his role as Under-21 head coach after 14 months and a run of particularly bad form.

Dickman was appointed back in October 2021 – the same month of the takeover – and is proof that not every decision from our new owners has smooth sailing, with Dan Ashworth currently overseeing changes behind-the-scenes to improve the club’s Academy.

The 44-year-old joined from Sunderland after having spent 26 years on Wearside as a youth player, academy coach and manager of the Under-23s, overseeing the development of the likes of Jordan Henderson.

The youth side find themselves in sixth in the Premier League 2 Division 2, winning their last game 3-2 at Crystal Palace to end a run of six league games without a win.

Our Academy’s Head of Coach Development, Neil Winskill, will oversee Under-21s’ training before the club can find a new Under-21 coaching line-up in the near future.

Official Newcastle United statement:

Newcastle United can announce that its Under-21s Lead Player Development Coach Elliott Dickman has left the club.

The club thanks Elliott for his hard work and professionalism during his 14 months at the Academy and wishes him well for the future.

The club has made a number of changes across the Professional Development Phase of its Academy in recent months.

Graeme Carrick was appointed as Under-18s coach in August and was joined by assistant Chris Moore, with Peter Ramage moving to support Shola Ameobi as Loan Player Coordinator.

Meanwhile, former under-18s assistant coach Ian Bogie returned to his role as Under-15s/16s lead coach, while Under-21s assistant Kevin Richardson left the club in October.

The Academy’s Head of Coach Development, Neil Winskill, will oversee Under-21s’ training before the club confirms its new Under-21 coaching line-up in due course.

Maybe it’s because the youth are not experienced enough and a bit impulsive in tactics on the pitch we become what we behold.
