Newcastle United announce two loan moves as defender and midfielder depart

Newcastle United have announced two loan departures this afternoon, with Kell Watts and Joe White both leaving for League One.

After impressing in our U21 and featuring in our mid-season friendly in Saudi Arabia, White has signed for Exeter City for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of 2021/22 in League Two with Hartlepool, but the highly-rated attacking midfielder will now play in the third tier under former Mag Gary Caldwell.

As for Watts, Newcastle have extended his loan spell at Peterborough, who currently sit two places above Exeter in League One.

The Alnwick-born centre-back has started three of the Posh’s last four games, but suffered a disrupted start to the 2022/23 season following a knee injury at the end of July.

At 23, the coming year promises to be a crucial one for the 6ft 3′ defender, as he’s out of contract on Tyneside in just over 12 months time. White, however, signed a new three-year deal with the club in March last year, keeping him at the club until 2025.
