Bruno Guimaraes hopes the ankle injury picked up in today’s 1-0 win over Fulham is “nothing serious” so he can return to action “as soon as possible.”
The emotional Brazilian went down the tunnel in tears at half time, showing visible signs of distress after struggling to play through the pain barrier.
Replays show that he twisted his ankle in a challenge with Palhinha midway through the first half, causing an injury that has left the midfielder in a “lot of pain”, according to Eddie Howe.
He will now have a scan in the coming days to determine the extent of the injury, leaving us with everything crossed ahead of our semi-final tie with Southampton over the coming weeks.
Here’s the two posts Bruno has shared on Twitter after the game, which also features a clip of the moment he went over on his ankle:
Howe had to say about Bruno’s injury when speaking after the game:
“Bruno was very distressed. He was in a lot of pain.
“He twisted his ankle quite badly but felt he could run it off. In the end he needed to be withdrawn.
“He worried about the injury after the game. That’s never a good sign
“He’s very upset and we’re obviously concerned for him.
“We hope it’s not too serious but at this moment in time, we don’t know.”
