Eddie Howe has revealed his ‘concern’ at a hamstring picked up by Joe Willock during Saturday night’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.
The midfielder was unable to continue – despite having his leg strapped up – and was replaced by Anthony Gordon midway through the first half.
Sadly, he wasn’t the only player forced off on a frustrating night for Newcastle, with Allan Saint-Maximin falling awkwardly on his knee and Miguel Almiron holding his arm after being accidentally stamped on,
Howe is hopeful those two withdrawals are nothing serious, while the absent Callum Wilson (hamstring) is expected to be back next weekend, however these are injury concerns we could do without with Bruno Guimaraes suspended and the Carabao Cup final just two weeks away.
Here’s what he had to say about the three injuries picked up during the game:
“It’s a massive concern, if they are going to be missing for any length of time.
“I think Maxi and Almiron are not too bad, hopefully, but that’s just an initial assessment.
“Joe Willock looks like it might be a hamstring.”
Howe also had this to say on Wilson when asked about his absence prior to the game:
“Callum’s just got a very minor hamstring complaint. We hope to get him back for the next one.”
It’s more than a worry with injuries, can see the season imploding!
No Bruno = ship without a rudder.
The signs were obvious against West Ham and have continued in the same vein today.
A loss in the Carabo Cup and confidence could nosedive, a squad lacking in depth and Dan Burn now being exposed when he hasn’t had Joelinton covering his back.
In the Summer we require M Diaby and a top class holding midfielder, and someone to replace Wilson who imo has lost a yard of pace and his cutting edge.
