Spurs set to appoint temporary boss for rest of the season as Conte faces sack – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, top four rivals Tottenham will sack Antonio Conte over the coming days and appoint former midfielder Ryan Mason on a temporary basis until the end of the season.

Over the past month, they’ve limped out of the Champions League, lost an FA Cup clash with Sheffield United, been beaten by relegation-threatened Wolves and let a 3-1 lead at Southampton slip, leaving St Mary’s with a point on Saturday.

Conte flipped in his post-match interview, slating the players after they threw away a two-goal lead over the weekend. That result leaves them just two points clear of Newcastle, yet we have two games in hand and Spurs still to play at St James’ Park.

The Telegraph report that the situation is deemed ‘irretrievable’, meaning the club should announce the Italian’s departure over the coming days.

Ryan Mason – a 31-year-old coach who was forced into early retirement – looks set to step in until the end of the season, with his first game likely to be Tottenham’s trip to Everton on Monday 3rd April.

The way it was going, it may have benefited us more had Conte stayed, though their wait for a long term replacement could hamper their Champions League hopes in the short-term, with the inexperienced Mason set to step in until the summer.

Elsewhere, The Times report that Roy Hodgson, 75, looks set to replace Patrick Vieira at Crystal Palace for the remainder of the season.
