In his latest piece for The Telegraph, Luke Edwards has revealed why Eddie Howe looks set to remain Newcastle United boss for many years to come.
He reports that the 45-year-old will be given time, money and full support from our Saudi-backed owners, who trust the manager to make key decisions and have the final say on every deal, in and out.
Howe is thought to enjoy a brilliant relationship with co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, also working seamlessly alongside sporting director Dan Ashworth and CEO Darren Eales.
It’s also believed he’d turn down any interest from elsewhere – whether that be from England, Spurs or Chelsea – as he feels he’s ‘found the ideal club for his own management style and character.’
Football can be fickle in this day and age – just look how many previously performing managers have been sacked this season. However, The Telegraph insist that Howe will be given time to grow the club ‘gradually and sustainably’, with his authority to oversee ‘every level of the football project’ also hugely appealing to him.
It seems he has also taken to the North East and been blown away by the love and support he’s received from fans, admitting on Tuesday that he ‘feels at home’ on Tyneside. Speaking about the backing he’s received from all areas of the football club, Howe said this to the press a few days ago:
“I am very grateful to everyone here. I’m talking about the owners, supporters, staff, everyone connected to the football club, who have made me feel at home and settled.
“That enables me to give my best work. I’m determined to try and stay here as long as I can. To do that, I need to be at my best.
“I don’t take that for granted because I know it can be a different environment out there. I have had a lot of support and hopefully that is a relationship that continues to grow. I feel for any manager who doesn’t get long enough to get their ideas across.
“We have formed a good team behind the team. Those relationships with owners and the technical staff, it’s important they are good and it’s important you are all listened to. It is not just my opinion that counts, everyone has an opinion on what we need to do and what direction we want to go. That teamwork is key.”
