According to talkSPORT, Allan Saint-Maximin has raised questions over his long-term future at the club and could be sold this summer.
In a transfer ‘exclusive’ from Alex Crook, it’s reported that the Frenchman has ‘questioned his role’ under Eddie Howe after the club spent £45m on Anthony Gordon in January.
The winger had been getting himself back into great form recently, playing key roles in convincing wins over Man Utd and West Ham, however he’s missed our last two due to a hamstring injury.
TalkSPORT believe that the club are ‘ready to cash in’ on the 26-year-old, feeling now is the time to sell to raise funds for summer signings and balance the books after spending £250m on incomings over the past three transfer windows.
I’m taking this with a pinch of salt – it feels an easy story to write now he’s back on the sidelines. However, I do wonder how much longer we can put our faith in the winger if he struggles to stay fit.
Here’s what ASM himself had to say about his future when speaking to Sky Sports earlier this month:
“I had the opportunity to go to another club in January — but the club said they want me to stay and that I’m important.
“When you feel that the club, the manager and every single person in Newcastle wants you then of course you want to stay, but the day I don’t have that feeling for sure I will have no other choice but to go to the place that really wants me.“

We’ve been saying that Maxi is on his way for a long time.
He’s always been hot and cold with bad decision making and a poor shot on him, and his position as SJP hero was always going to be under threat if we could bring in a more consistent winger.
He was never going to accept going from hero to benchwarmer.
Truth is, we need better.
Expect Almiron to be on his way too.
