Newcastle’s top-four hopes were handed another boost last night, as Brighton suffered a 3-1 defeat at relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest.
Had they won both of their games in hand, the Seagulls could’ve gone within four points of Newcastle ahead of our meeting at St James’ Park in a few weeks time. However, this damaging result at the City Ground means they are now 10 points behind the Toon with just one game in hand.
For me, this rules another contender out of the race, but Liverpool aren’t going away just yet after their 2-1 win over West Ham on Wednesday night.
They have a winnable run in, yet they were fortunate to leave the London Stadium with all three points, with fans, pundits and many in the media baffled that West Ham were denied a late penalty.
Last week, VAR refused to chalk off a goal that clearly hit Alexander-Arnold’s hand at Leeds and last night they got away with it again, as Thiago’s handball in the 88th minute was ignored.
Not for the first time this season, VAR have protected the ‘big six’ club – not that we’ll have to worry about lucky Liverpool should we leave Everton with three points of our own.
Here’s the updated Premier League table following last night’s results, keeping in mind that Spurs also take on Man Utd tonight:

Boy, someone at Stockley Park loves LiVARpool…perhaps a little too much…!
