NUFC star makes surprise contract admission as agent prepares for talks on Tyneside

Despite reports suggesting Callum Wilson was contracted to the club until 2026, the striker has revealed in a new interview that his current deal is due to expire at the end of the 2023/24 season.

With 12 months remaining, he’s been speaking to the press following his return to the England squad ahead of upcoming EURO qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.

He’s discussed his future on Tyneside, confirming his agent will hold talks with the club ‘at some point over a possible extension. With 18 goals in 31 Premier League appearances last season, the 31-year-old is hopeful of extending his stay at St James’ Park.

Here’s what our No 9 has had to say when asked about his current situation:

“It’s right that I am only contracted until next year (2024).

“Newcastle’s a fantastic place at the moment, and I am enjoying my football.

“My agent and the club will be speaking on my future at some point, and hopefully it will be with Newcastle.”

After that tough spell in front of goal following the World Cup, where form and fitness both evaded the forward, he proved his doubters wrong with a simply stunning end to the 2022/23 season, bagging eight in his last eight games.

He may slip down the pecking order in years to come, but Wilson is fully deserving of an extension.
