According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are plotting a summer move for Hertha Berlin forward Derry Scherhant.
With Dan Ashworth leading our pursuit of hidden gems able to become future stars at St James’ Park, it’s believed the 20-year-old is the latest youth talent on our wanted list.
The 6ft 1′ forward made 10 Bundesliga appearances for Hertha last season, scoring once. Before that, he’s weighed in with 24 goals and 10 assists in 46 outings for their reserve team,
The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath adds that he’s expected to cost £1.5m; making this a potential bargain as a German U20 international who can play up top or out wide.
His potential arrival has been compared to our recent move for Harrison Ashby, with Scherhant an emerging talent at U21 level who has begun to get game time at senior level over the past season.
With Garang Kuol and Yankuba Minteh recently brought in by Ashworth, he could be the latest one to watch in our search for future stars able to push for a first-team place in years to come.

While I’m delighted we are looking to the future, we need to sort out some first team investment, let’s not be running about last minute, get our business done early and have the squad bedded in during preseason 👍🏻
