Tino Livramento update – The clearest sign yet that Newcastle are closing in on Saints star?

Tino Livramento will NOT travel with the Southampton squad ahead of their first game of the Championship season tomorrow night.

The Saints are due to face Sheffield Wednesday in their opening game of the 2023/24 season following relegation, but it’s emerged that the 20-year-old will play no part.

Interestingly, Saints boss Russell Martin has told Sky Sports that James Ward-Prowse and Romeo Lavia will be involved in tomorrow’s game despite ongoing links with West Ham and Liverpool respectively, suggesting a move for Livramento may be more advanced.

It’s yet to be confirmed, but this is a major sign that a move to Newcastle United could finally be on the cards and heading in the right direction after talks over the past two weeks.

As we explained in a recent piece, there’s already been promising signs that a deal may be edging closer. Not only have we sanctioned Harrison Ashby’s loan move to Swansea, reports suggest Southampton are pushing to sign Norwich right-back Max Aarons, so it seems both clubs are acting as though this move will take place.

He isn’t injured, having featured in their last four friendlies against Goztepe, Reading, Bournemouth and AZ Alkmaar. It’s often a telltale sign that a deal is close when a player missed out on the squad, as one injury could scupper what could be a deal in excess of £30m.

Let’s hope we get news soon that confirms a compromise has been reached between the two clubs.
