New signing arrives at SJP alongside former Toon flop and two Saudi friendlies confirmed

Newcastle United have sealed the signing of AC Milan centre-back Cathal Heffernan – who was joined former Toon loanee Stephen Ireland as he posed for photos on Tuesday afternoon.

The 18-year-old will join fellow Irishman Alex Murphy and Reece Byrne in our U21 set up, with Inter Milan talent and Republic of Ireland’s U19 star Kevin Zefi expected to also seal a move to St James’ Park.

As for Ireland – who played just twice for the club during a failed loan spell in 2011 – it’s not clear if he represents Heffernan, who has been pictured at St James’ Park alongside the ex-Man City midfielder and his father, Rob (see photos below).

This follows a flurry of U16 arrivals on Tyneside, with the likes of Sam Alabi, Michael Mills, Kacey Wooster and Sammy Pinnington also joining our ever-improving academy over the past few weeks.

Staying at St James’ Park, the club have today announced that we’ll host two international friendly fixtures featuring the Saudi Arabia men’s national team in September. The Saudi national side will face Costa Rica on Friday, 8th September and South Korea on Tuesday, 12th September.

Here’s photos of Heffernan alongside former Mag Stephen Ireland:
