Newcastle battered by AC Milan as Toon suffer brutal start to UEFA Youth League

It’s been a brutal start to the UEFA Youth League for Newcastle United’s U19 side.

They faced AC Milan’s U19s in the 1pm kick-off at the Centro Sportivo Vismara and fell to a 4-0 defeat.

The game was available to watch live on TNT Sports 1 and UEFA.tv, seeing our youth stars take on last year’s semi-finalists in Italy.

Our side featured summer signings Cathal Heffernan and Tarvis Hernes, Jamie Miley, Ben Parkinson – who featured a few times over pre-season – and recent recruit Charlie Mcarthur. We kept it at 0-0 in the early stages, but a flurry of goals from Chaka Traore and two from outstanding 15-year-old Francesco Camarda sent us into the break 3-0 down.

Geordie striker Ben Parkinson had chances to score in both halves, but failed to convert. At the other end, Milan’s Kevin Zeroli made it 4-0 on 75 minutes with their second penalty of the game.

Next up, we face PSG’s U19s on October 4th, with our home games set to be played at the Gateshead International Stadium. A tough afternoon for the lads and reminder that our academy is still a long way behind some of Europe’s elite.

NUFC XI: Harrison (GK) Thompson, Heffernan, Mcarthur, Charlton, Miley, Hernes, Huntley, Emerson, Parkinson, Donaldson.
