Incredible Sean Longstaff stats – Take note, Gareth Southgate…

In the last 14 games Sean Longstaff has started, Newcastle have won 12 and drawn the other two, highlighting what a key player he’s become for Eddie Howe. We’re unbeaten since March when he starts.

During that run, we have also scored 38 goals and conceded just seven, while he has suffered just five defeats in his last 41 starts across all competitions.

The midfielder has been absolutely integral to our recent run of impressive results since he returned to the starting line-up. These stats highlight just how important he is to this team, yet he continues to be ignored by Gareth Southgate

He may not be a flashy passer, skilful or slick, but he does so many things for the team that are largely under-appreciated. He covers so much ground, keeps the ball moving, shields our back four and does a lot of dirty work that allows others ahead of him to sparkle.

Despite his great form, he was yet again left out of the recent England squad, with the likes of Jordan Henderson (playing in Saudi Arabia) and Kalvin Phillips (a benchwarmer at Man City with just 70 minutes played) included instead.

  1. Whether Longstaff played or not is coincidental – not causal.

I would have thought the stats from the PSG game would have shut the “statisticians” up.
