Newcastle announce third new deal after July leak – Three down, three to go?

Back in July, a photo was ‘leaked’ of Dan Burn posing for pictures that appeared to confirm his new deal at Newcastle United.

A few months later, the club have finally used that picture and confirmed that the big man from Blyth has signed an extension, keeping him at St James’ Park until 2025.

This is the third new deal confirmed by the club over the past month, with Callum Wilson recently extending until 2025 and Bruno Guimaraes putting pen to paper until 2028.

Three more could be on the horizon, with Fabian Schar, Joelinton and Sean Longstaff all thought to be in discussions. Schar’s current contract expires at the end of the season, while big Joe and Longstaff have been in talks over extensions and fresh terms, with their deals up until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Here’s what Burn and Toon boss Eddie Howe have told NUFC.co.uk in reaction to today’s news:

Dan Burn“It means everything to me to play for this club and to sign a new contract. I said when I signed that I didn’t want this to be just a ‘stop-gap’ signing to keep us up – I wanted to be here for a long time.

“So personally it feels even more of an achievement signing this one than it was actually signing here in the first place. I’m delighted and looking forward to the next couple of seasons.”

Eddie Howe – “Dan is a leader on and off the pitch so we are delighted he has extended his stay with us.

He is a key part of our squad and has played a huge role in our progress since his arrival. He knows exactly what it means to represent this great club and is hungry to succeed, and that can only help the team and the club going forward.”

After a string of solid displays, two goals – including THAT header against PSG – and five clean sheets in our last seven games, our Geordie giant continues to be a key cog in this Newcastle United side. Well deserved!
