Despite Newcastle trio Eddie Howe, Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almiron all being up for Premier League awards for September, it was Man United and Tottenham who collected the accolades.
Trippier had been up for player of the month after some stellar performances, including the game at Sheffield United where he racked up three assists, but was beaten by Spurs star Heung-Min Son.
Howe was up for manager of the month after three wins and a defeat in September, but again we were beaten to it by Tottenham as Ange Postecoglu picked up back-to-back awards.
Almiron was nominated for goal of the month for his brilliant strike against Burnley which curled in the top corner, but the award was handed to Bruno Fernandes; who scored a stunning volley in Man Utd’s 1-0 win at Burnley.
Though we didn’t actually win any of the categories, it shows real promise that we’re back on track and still performing in the Premier League despite the extra fixtures with Champions League.
